BARREN ANNOUNCES SEVERE WEATHER PLANS FOR THIS AFTERNOON
(Glasgow, Kentucky) March 2, 2012 – The schools in the Barren County School District are prepared to hold students at the schools if severe weather exists in the area at school dismissal time this afternoon.
“We won’t put our students in danger, and if that means delaying our dismissal time this afternoon, we are prepared to do that,” said Superintendent Bo Matthews. “School buildings are among the safest places to be in the event of severe weather. We have procedures in place, students and teachers have practiced those procedures, and we have sufficient staff to supervise our students if dismissal is delayed.”
School administrators have been instructed to release students to parents if they wish to sign out their children early, and according to Matthews, if parents feel that they need to come and sign their student out due to the weather, the schools would not prohibit that.
“The bottom line is that being inside of the school safe zones for shelter in place is best for our students until the all clear is given,” said Matthews.
